"FORM FOLLOWS FUNCTION"
Lets begin, the brief was simple and direct when I formulated the idea of designing a community hall factors where raised by myself after analysing the area and one thing came to my mind Ratshidi community hall which is found at the far end side of Ramosadi village tat is overlapping to Stateng village, Ratshidi hall stands out with its structural character and dignifies the path way that leads eopl to twn but one thing I noticed was the space, yes space it was not arranged, contextual space was not planned and this might be normal due to cost efficiency but here on Architecture North West Mafikeng Development blog we look at quality over quantity.
lets begin with what we mean by context architecturally it might be how one should link the function of design concern with the atmost environment concern meaning the ability to have a free flow of function and activities that work hand in hand, a simple advise if a parents decides to go to a meting of the community with a parent due to their own reasons it is most likely that the safest place that child could be waiting for a parent will be inside the car or we might also agree that inside the community hall next to a parent chances of that child making noise are so high.
Ok know we are getting some where what if we choose to make a waiting area for such individual how will it look like will you design a football field and force them to play soccer while waiting for the parent not but a hub that is going to act like a energy injected in the ground to attract this kids nor teenagers.
Ok let me show you the site before we go further Sereko's Street a very busy street with cars, taxis, trucks and and traffic jam after hours.

COMMUNITY HALL AT SEREKOS STREET.Mmabatho
Hi guys i'm sorry I have been away "varsity work" but hey gas what I'm back and with more special space manipulation that can or might take place at Mafikeng ladies and gentle men after a long thinking as I promised you that I will post my AutoCAD drawings to this blog due to personal reasons ill only be sharing concept model on how this can be achieved but if the view keeps on growing ill see to it that I post a certain AutoCAD drawing to interpret the concept or we can communicate on Facebook "Thabang skill Mashila" or email me at chrismshill@yahoo.co.uk with that said and done let us continue with what we do best today I will be manipulating a site closer to the old Mmabatho police station far end of motlhabeng village, the site is found at sereko.s street there I wanted to achieve the following combination of rural and urban by means of modernism meaning creating space that cannot intimidate low class people while it doesn't stop attracting threat to urbanised individuals instead the space on its own having a forcing fact for them to go there....I call it modernism by precedent. crossing of the roads for safety etc. a special bridge that fits the context will do.
the site is closer to a shopping complex, schools, petrol garage and police station the area consist of a lot of residential area restaurant are everywhere therefor what needed to be done with this site was to inject energy in the area so that people can appreciate the city walkabout. ENJOY!

morning guys this morning I'm still working hard on the technology that can work for megacity bridge. my first thought was concrete than I realised that with the staircase width and breadth on the south, cost can be a problem so at the moment I'm considering I beans, a bit of concrete scattered where necessarily and laminated wood cladding to enhance the exterior as shown on my sketchup drawing as a solution to cost efficiency. maybe by the end of 2moro the design will be done and and all the precedent studies will be allocated. have a nice day

Mega city bridge concept. Mafikeng tagget 2020
after hours of exploring ideas concepts and structures I needed to make my bridge as different as possible, not from the context. but from a normal bridge and its characteristics there for I ended up coming with the idea of making a bridge that gives one a feeling that view is more important than anything when your crossing over I have achieved this by allowing a pedestrian to have a view of traffic, mmabana building megacity and Eskom building. The most appealing feeling it is when you see the far west new building next to police station. while the god part of the design is that you can also enjoy the flow of space of the bridge on its own. enjoy.
the bridge is more modern and compliments the Architectural approach.
height restriction was not a problem for cars and trucks but as soon as I realised that trucks usually use the road even buses as Mmabatho consist of taxi rank and bus rank there for in this design height was extremely and issue but based on trial and error without compromising the design. I managed.
when one drives from west to east impressive view from the car makes the bridge to stand out with boldness and impressive character

Model making. my citi bus context Cape Town as a reference to how mafikeng can also be improved.
My desire is to improve Mafikeng with logical ideas that can change the floating spaces from megacity to town one gets to explore the garage next to Kfc and than what you drive along until you see a library don't forget that on your left hand side is a the boundary that is dry and makes you feel like your driving in a military base. context is important. on this model I have challenged my idea of how "walkabouts" should be contacted. I mean the only time we have a bridge is when we want to allow a train to pass which is functional and reasonable under any normal circumstances.
but with budget and new talent this all can be changed.
take a look at this model it is a two way one man jive meaning in everywhere you want to go provision of two roads is given, is either through staircase bridge or on the robots.
For instance take a look at scene that takes place at kfc next to the garage in order for you to cross over to megacity parking lot that happens in your own risk.
My name is Thabang Mashila and I am 22 years Old.
It is better to use a minute to explore rather than meditating. Architecture is broad weather you love the space side of it or the skeleton structure that compliments form, well you still right but I for one love the space part of it. how people walk around spaces how such spaces are been designed by care and huge attention to details. form follows function unless stated otherwise.
My intention with this blog is to show people out there how can Mafikeng be changed and magnified in such a way that it's communities and dwellers will be able to appreciate the open spaces that they have as such can be transformed by construction and detailing that will compliment applied building sciences and bring peace to the harmonies presentation that takes some time and extremely design hours within my studio as a student.
The drawings are for fun no drawings should be used without my go ahead or steps will be taken against such based on section 4 of the Government gazette. hope you will enjoy and share with other Mafikeng dwellers.
